Ali Browns flax weaving incorporates both contemporary and traditional techniques and draws on an extensive background of practical involvement in craftwork,
particularly the fibre-weaving crafts. Ali tutors flax weaving through her own regular workshops as well as workshops in communities and school programmes and at art and craft events.
Ali has written a book that features original designs and arrangements.
This course is for beginners, Intermediate and refresher levels.
In this course students will learn to weave a simple two-conered flax basket or Kete, and with different techniques learn to weave a larger container.
With these techniques you will then be able to weave a variety of beautiful items such as flowers and the popular koru. If you have some weaving experience
you can extend your weaving skill by learning further techniques.
Ali will have copies of her book, "Weaving Flowers from New Zealand Flax" that students can purchase for $30.00.
