Amuri Autumn School
At a meeting on the 2nd November 1992,it was moved that five classes
with tutors for the proposed Autumn School in April 1993 would go ahead.
A generous grant from the Southern Regional Arts Council meant expert
tuition could be provided. Due to its sucess, it was decided to hold the
event annually at Hamner Springs.
The cover on the 1993 brochure was the Ferry Bridge, Waiau River
and hills at Hamner Springs. This was replaced in 1994 by the drawing
still in use today.
By 1997 the school was growing and even with a grant from Creative NZ,
costs and fees were increasing. When approached, the Amuri Area Schools Continuing Education
Co-ordinators agreed to assist with hours and funding for the tutors.
This enabled fees to be kept low.
This year will be our fourth at the Amuri Area Senior School
campus in Culverden. Our years at this venue have been very successful and
we are hoping to maintain this despite the drastic cuts in funding. Our Sponsors have been both
generous and understanding with their support thereby enabling us to continue this year.
Of course, the Amuri Arts` Council`s aims still apply; " To bring into the
Amuri Area, tutors expert in their feild, and for participants to enjoy a
weekend of making and renewing friendships while increasing their
diversity of skills with an understanding of Arts and Crafts not normally
available in the district ".
On behalf of the Amuri Community Arts Council "Enjoy a happy weekend "
Once again,we look forward to our Culverden venue providing a great atmosphere for convivial
learning and generating increased community involvement in the Amuri Autumn School.
Tutors work will be displayed during March at the Gallery, Hanmer Springs.
